Mauermann attended the Latin school of the Neuzelle monastery and entered the Cistercian order there at the age of 16 . He was ordained a priest in 1804 and then worked for nine years as a chaplain in the pastoral care of his hometown. In 1813 he went to the Cistercian convent Marienstern as a chaplain , which was under the spiritual supervision of Neuzelle. He stayed there until the Prussian government dissolved his monastery in 1817. Mauermann was now a secular priest in the service of the Apostolic Vicariate in the Saxon hereditary lands (responsible for Saxony but excluding Upper Lusatia, Saxony-Altenburg and Reuss older and younger lines ). First he was a chaplain, later a pastor in Leipzig. Appointed court chaplain, Mauermann also received a canonical at the Bautzen Petridom and in 1827 took over the chairmanship of the newly formed Catholic consistory in Dresden.

After the death of his younger brother Ignaz Bernhard , Mauermann was in 1841 at the request of King Friedrich August II. Pope Gregor XVI. the new Vicar Apostolic of Saxony and appointed and elevated to the title of Titular Bishop of Rama . He received his episcopal ordination in March 1842 in the Dresden court church by the Leitmeritz bishop Augustin Hille . During his short term in office, Mauermann had the Catholic church built in Annaberg . His brother left the necessary funds to the Church. He also opened a Catholic school in Grimma and initiated the construction of the Trinity Church in Leipzig , which he did not see to be completed. In his will he donated an amount for the construction of a Catholic church and school in Saxony (the so-called Mauermann Foundation). In 1883 she built the church and school in Radeberg.

Mauermann died on October 25, 1845 and was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden-Friedrichstadt . He had the chapel there built himself in 1842. His successor was Joseph Dittrich .

The bishop was considered a good preacher. He has had some of his sermons published in print. He also wrote canonical treatises and a history of the Neuzelle monastery.
