Matthias Brinkmann

Matthias Brinkmann (born March 31, 1879 in Ostenfelde ; † September 21, 1969 in Osnabrück ) was a German educator and biologist .

The farmer's son became a bishop after training. Teachers' seminar in Osnabrück first primary school teacher there and from 1900 in Hamburg and 1907 seminar teacher in Hildesheim . From 1914 to 1916 he served until he was wounded in the First World War. He studied biology, pedagogy and psychology at the University of Göttingen from 1921/22 to 1925/26, and at the age of 46 he was already doing his doctorate with Narcissus Ach on biology lessons in the adventure school . He then became a teacher in Hildesheim in 1926, where he continued extensive studies on the north-west German avifauna based on the model of Leunis . In 1928 he went to Ratibor , in 1930 he became a professor of education, zoology and botany at the Kath. Pedagogical Academy (from 1933 college for teacher training ) in Bytom . This was associated with a racial doctrine in the sense of National Socialism . B. was illustrated by visits to special schools . After the closure, he worked as deputy head of the Beuthen teacher training college from 1941 . From 1933 Brinkmann was a member of the SA , from 1937 a member of the NSDAP, and since 1945 retired. In January 1945 he was expelled from Beuthen and returned to his parents' farm near Osnabrück.

In the district of Osnabrück he became the district commissioner for nature conservation and regional studies Osnabrück. There he began again a great natural history work with many contributions both spoken and written. In 1961 he received the Federal Cross of Merit .

Brinkmann published 26 books and independent writings, 669 articles in magazines and yearbooks and countless newspaper articles. He deals with a wide variety of areas, from pedagogy, psychology and didactics to zoology, botany, geography, climatology and nature conservation to hiking guides and topics of local, regional and folklore.

His grave is on the Hasefriedhof in Osnabrück .
