Matthias Dögen (* between February 24, 1605 and February 23, 1606 in Köntopf near Dramburg ; † February 23, 1672 in Berlin ) was a Brandenburg fortress construction engineer and diplomat.

Mattias Dögen was the son of the preacher in Köntopf and, since 1611, a deacon in Dramburg Elias Dögen (* 1581; † 1626) and Gertrud Boetticher, daughter of Otto Boetticher, inspector of the Falkenburg church district and the mayor's daughter Anna Schultz from Gartz on the Oder . From his marriage to Maria Vermeule, Mattias Dögen had a son.

Life

In 1620 Dögen attended the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt to study mathematics . He then began studying engineering at the University of Leiden .

After graduating, he soon worked for the Amsterdam Admiralty of the Republic of the Seven United Provinces . The works he wrote there impressed the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg , so that Dögen moved to Berlin to help renew the Berlin fortifications, which were built according to the outdated Lynar system .

In 1641 the elector appointed the then Dögen as agent in The Hague , soon afterwards as councilor and resident for Amsterdam. He had u. a. the task of liquidating the debt of 100,000 Dutch guilders assumed by the then electoral prince Georg Wilhelm as governor of Kleve in 1615 from the general collector of the Admiralty College Peter Höfyser , and to bring about an alliance with the States General . In July 1655 his diplomatic activities lead to the conclusion of the alliance between Brandenburg and the States General.

In 1657 Ernst von Zuhm transferred his rights to Ameland to Dögen. In August 1662 he left Amsterdam and ended his life as a private citizen in Berlin.
