Matthias Glandorp (also Mathias ; born January 18, 1595 in Cologne ; † January 29, 1636 in Bremen ) was a German physician and surgeon in Bremen.

Life

Glandorp was a son of the Cologne surgeon Ludwig Glandorp , who came from Bremen . He attended school in Bremen and then learned the practice of the surgical trade from his father and brother Wilhelm, who had already practiced successfully in France and America. At the same time he studied medicine with Peter Holzemius at the University of Cologne . On his recommendation, he continued his studies with Hieronymus Fabricius from Aquapendente and with Adriaan van de Spiegel at the University of Padua on October 22, 1616 , where he obtained a doctorate in medicine and surgery on August 4, 1617 .

After an educational trip through Italy, he returned to Germany in 1618 and began to practice in Bremen. Here he was particularly encouraged by the city ​​physician Valentin at the end. In 1625 he married Maria Oppenheim. From this marriage only the son Paul Glandorp emerged, who later worked as a medicine professor in Rinteln . In 1628 he became the personal physician of the Archbishop of Bremen, Johann Friedrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf , whom he accompanied in 1634 on a trip to Wiesbaden and Bad Schwalbach . In 1636 he practiced as a guest at the court of King Christian IV of Denmark and Norway . Returning from Denmark, Glandorp died at the age of only 41.
