Matthias Lietz (born March 12, 1953 in Zittau ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2006 to 2009 he was a member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . From 2009 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag, where he was a member of the Transport Committee and the European Committee.

Life

Lietz attended the polytechnic high school and then completed vocational training with a high school diploma as a fitter . He then did his 18 months of basic military service and graduated from 1974 to 1978 with a degree in engineering. General mechanical engineering and vehicle construction (FH) at the Zwickau Engineering University . He then worked from 1979 to 1992 as an assembly and department manager in the agricultural engineering plant in Rostock, Wusterhusen division and until 1997 as a technical employee at the DRK district association of Eastern Pomerania and the water / wastewater association. From 1997 to 2000 he completed further training at the Administration and Business Academy in Schwerin, which he completed with a degree in administration and business administration (VWA) . Lietz is Catholic, married and has two grown children and three grandchildren.

Lietz was mayor of the Lubmin seaside resort from 1990 to 1992 and mayor from 1992 to 2004 . From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the district council of East Western Pomerania, where he was also district council president from 1999 to 2009. Since 2004 he has been deputy chairman and from 2008 to 2009 he was chairman of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania district council. In the state elections in 2006 Lietz won the direct mandate in constituency 30 (Ostvorpommern II) and moved into the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. There he was chairman of the committee for agriculture, the environment and consumer protection and spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group for local and environmental policy until October 2009.

On January 10, 2009, Lietz was nominated by the CDU as a direct candidate for the former Bundestag constituency Greifswald - Demmin - Ostvorpommern for the 2009 Bundestag election.

On September 27, 2009 he won the directorship of the Bundestag there. In the 17th Bundestag Matthias Lietz was a full member of the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development and the Committee on European Union Affairs.

In the 2013 federal election , Lietz again won a direct mandate for the CDU on September 22, 2013, this time in the newly formed federal constituency Mecklenburgische Seenplatte I - Vorpommern-Greifswald II . He was an alternate member of the Food and Agriculture Committee .

For the 2017 federal election, he was defeated by the CDU politician Philipp Amthor in the CDU district association. Lietz therefore did not move into the Bundestag again.
