Matthias Lindner (soccer player, 1965)

Matthias Lindner (born October 5, 1965 in Grimma ) is a former German soccer player. For 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig he played in the GDR Oberliga , for VfB Leipzig in the Bundesliga . Lindner is a 22-time GDR national player . He won the GDR soccer cup with 1. FC Lok in 1987 .

Athletic career

Matthias Lindner played in the youth division of the BSG Lokomotive in Naunhof until 1976 . In 1976 he moved to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , where he went through the rest of the youth teams. Between 1982 and 1984 he played 24 international matches with the GDR junior national team .

Lindner played his first league game in the 1982/83 season and became a regular player in 1985/86. From 1984 to 1987 he was part of the junior national team , for which he played 20 international matches. While he was initially used as a midfielder at 1. FC Lok, he later played in defense, for a long time as a libero. In the GDR Cup victory in 1987 (4-1 over Hansa Rostock ) and in the final for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1986/87 (0-1 against Ajax Amsterdam ), he was used as a central defender. This was also his position in the 22 GDR internationals that Lindner played between 1987 and 1990.

Lindner completed his last season for 1. FC Lok Leipzig in 1990/91. He then played for VfB Leipzig until 1997 , first in the 2nd Bundesliga and in the 1993/94 season in the Bundesliga. 1997/98 Lindner was also active in the 2nd Bundesliga for one season for FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Lindner last played from 1998 to 2001 for FC Sachsen Leipzig in the third-class regional league .
