Matthias Michel (born March 20, 1963 in Thal SG ; resident in Zug and Netstal ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Michel studied law at the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne from 1982 to 1988 and graduated with a degree . In 1991 he was admitted to the bar in the Canton of Zug , and in 1998 he obtained his doctorate in Zurich.

In 1993/94, Michel worked as a legal assistant in Zug's finance department, and from 1995 to 2002 as a lawyer in Rolf Schweiger's law firm in Zug (from 1998 as a partner). After training as a mediator at the Aargau University of Applied Sciences , in 2002 he worked as a part-time arbitrator at the cantonal arbitration board for labor law disputes.

Michel is married with four children and lives in Oberwil near Zug .

politics

From 1995 to 2002 Michel was a member of the Zug Cantonal Council . He was a member of several commissions, including the State Economic Commission, the Road Construction Commission and the Presidium of the preliminary advisory commission on the new tax law.

In 2002 Michel was elected to the Zug government council and confirmed in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He did not run again in the 2018 general election. When he took office in January 2003, Michel took over the Directorate for Education and Culture. From 2007 to 2018 he headed the economics department. In 2011/12 he presided over the government council as Landammann . In 2012 he was named Zuger of the Year . For the Swiss parliamentary elections 2019 Michel is the official candidate of the Liberal FDP.Die the Canton train for the Senate . In the second ballot, Michel was elected to the Council of States.
