Matthias Pompe (born February 15, 1984 in Leipzig ) is a German volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Born in Leipzig, Matthias Pompe has played indoor volleyball since 1999 and beach volleyball since 2001. His focus was initially on volleyball in the sand, where he was successful with various partners on a national and international level. With Stefan Uhmann , Matthias Pompe won the silver medal at the U23 Beach European Championship in St. Pölten in 2006 .

Matthias Pompe has been a trainer in BeachZeit , a beach volleyball school, since 2012 .

Parallel to the beach volleyball, Pompe kept fit in the hall with various clubs in the second Bundesliga during the winter months . With TV Rottenburg , where he has played since 2005, he was promoted to the first Bundesliga twice in 2006 and 2008 , which meant that he had to almost stop his beach volleyball activities. His best Bundesliga placement was fifth in 2009/10. In 2011 Pompe went to league competitor TV Bühl . Pompe also made nine appearances in the senior national team . In 2012 he moved to the French first division club Gazélec FC Ajaccio . After one season he returned to the Bundesliga for evivo Düren . In the 2013/14 season, the outside attacker reached the quarter-finals in the Bundesliga and in the DVV Cup with the Düren team . A year later he reached the semifinals of the DVV Cup with the team renamed SWD Powervolleys Düren and came third in the Bundesliga . At the European Games in Baku , Pompe won the gold medal with the national team. In 2016, Pompe switched to league competitor SVG Lüneburg , where he ended his career in 2019.
