Mattia Vicario

Mattia Vicario (born April 11, 1849 in Fontanetto , † March 5, 1906 in Novara ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Novara .

Life

The ordination received Mattia Vicario on 16 March 1872 in Vercelli by Archbishop Celestino Matteo Fissore . He became a canon of the local cathedral .

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on March 18, 1895 Bishop of Saluzzo . He was ordained bishop on April 28th of the same year by the Archbishop of Vercelli Lorenzo Carlo Pampirio OP in the Cathedral of Vercelli ; Co- consecrators were Teodoro Valfrè di Bonzo , Bishop of Como , and Edoardo Pulciano , Bishop of Novara . On December 16, 1901 Mattia Vicario was transferred to the bishopric of Novara, but could not take possession of the diocese until October 19, 1902. During his tenure, he founded the Banca del Piccolo Credito , which granted small loans to clergy and lay people.

Mattia Vicario died at the age of 56 and was buried in the Novara Cemetery Church.
