Maurice Evenor Cardinal Piat CSSp (born July 19, 1941 in Moka , Mauritius ) is Bishop of Port-Louis .

Life

Maurice Piat kicked his school years in the Congregation of the Holy Ghost , and received on 2 August 1970, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On January 21, 1991 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop of Port-Louis . Jean Cardinal Margéot donated him episcopal ordination on May 19, 1991 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Saint-Denis-de-La Réunion , Gilbert Aubry , and the Archbishop of Bangalore , Alphonsus Mathias . With the resignation of Cardinal Margéot on February 15, 1993, Maurice Piat succeeded him as Bishop of Port-Louis.

Maurice Piat was born on September 23, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed member of the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa (October 4 to 25, 2009).

In the consistory of November 19, 2016, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Teresa al Corso d'Italia in the college of cardinals . The ownership of his titular church did not take place until two years later, on November 25, 2018.

On December 23, 2017, the Pope appointed him a member of the Dicastery for the Holistic Development of Man .
