Mauro Facci (born May 11, 1982 in Vicenza ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Career

Mauro Facci began his international career in 2003 with the Italian cycling team Fassa Bortolo , after having ridden there the previous year as a stagiaire . Previously, he was among other things Italian junior runner-up. He narrowly missed his first professional win in 2003 at the Giro del Trentino as second in the third stage, when he was only beaten by Elio Aggiano in a sprint of a breakaway group . He celebrated his first victory in 2005 at the Settimana Internazionale when he and his team were successful in the team time trial. In the overall classification of the race, he came in second. In the same year he also took part in the Tour de France for the first time and finished his first major tour of the country in 144th place overall.

After the end of Fassa Bortolo, Facci drove for the Professional Continental Team Barloworld in 2006 . At the Classic Haribo in Marseille , he finished third and achieved his only podium for the team. The following season Facci was signed by the Belgian ProTeam Quick Step . There he was able to take part in his first Giro d'Italia . In a strong 34th place he reached the finish in Milan . In the same year, he narrowly missed his first personal professional victory at the Tour de la Région Wallonne . Rémi Pauriol had defeated him in the sprint of the two outliers.

Also in 2008 Facci competed in the Giro d'Italia . Again he was able to reach the goal, this time as 115. He was also nominated for the Tour de France , where he had to get out after the sixth stage. At the GP Briek Schotte in 2008 he also achieved his first and only personal victory as a professional cyclist. A year later he reached the Giro d'Italia , which he finished 108th, on the 15th stage in seventh place, his first top ten place in a major tour of the country.

In 2010, Facci competed again in the Giro d'Italia . He reached the finish in Verona in 121st and was thus able to finish all of his four tours of Italy. At the end of the 2010 season he ended his career as an active professional cyclist at the age of only 29.
