The Max-Beckmann-Oberschule is an integrated secondary school with upper secondary school in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf in the district of the same name . It was named after the German painter , graphic artist , sculptor and author Max Beckmann .

The catchment area of the school is the immediate vicinity. But there are also many students from other parts of the village, especially from the area between Heiligensee and Tegelort and the Märkisches Viertel . A few come from the neighboring districts of Mitte and Pankow .

School history

The school was founded as a community school by Reinickendorf on April 1, 1907. Construction of the school on Auguste-Viktoria-Allee did not begin until March 1, 1908, and only eight rooms were completed for school operations in autumn 1908 and 1909.

In the years 1912–1914 an extension was necessary due to the high number of students. The building was expanded into the depth of the property, while the street front remained relatively narrow.

In 1920 Reinickendorf became the 20th district of Greater Berlin and around 60 modern schools were built in the 1920s . One of these secular schools was the 8th elementary school on Auguste-Viktoria-Allee.

With the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, progressive educational work was put to an end and the 8th elementary school was brought into line. Many teachers were dismissed from the school service. Part of the architecture of the 1930s is the terrace above the current school entrance. There are still bunkers on the school premises from the Nazi era , for example under the school car park. On September 21, 1946, the 8th Reinickendorf elementary school was renamed the Hermann Schulz School in memory of the victims of fascism .

After the unified school, which was initially set up in Berlin, was abolished, pupils of the high schools practical branch (today: Hauptschule ) and technical branch (today: Realschule ) romped to the Hermann Schulz School with a large number of elementary school students. The later 5th OH / OR had a common teaching staff and the elementary school with almost 1000 students was one of the largest in Berlin. As a result of the lack of space, a pavilion with eight mobile classrooms was built, which has been used by the primary school since 1968 .

In 1970 the new sports hall was built. Later the primary school was divided and could finally move into new rooms: 1972 on Foxweg (Reineke-Fuchs-Schule) and 1973 in Kienhorststraße (Hermann-Schulz-Schule). When the primary school moved out, the main building was structurally converted for the sole use of the secondary school. The school building still largely offers the interior design that was created back then. In the 1970s, elementary schools emerged all over Berlin as huge educational centers for all-day schools . In Reinickendorf this was deviated from by setting up the third comprehensive school in the district in an old school building (Auguste-Viktoria-Allee 37), where only half-day operation was possible.

After several renovations, the 3rd secondary school in Reinickendorf started operating as a comprehensive school on August 1st, 1976. The still existing secondary and secondary school was dissolved in 1979. In 1980 the upper school level was introduced.

On September 13, 1983, the comprehensive school was named Max Beckmann Oberschule - comprehensive school with upper level . The Max Beckmann Oberschule has been an integrated secondary school since 2011.
