Max Bahr (born October 25, 1848 in Landsberg an der Warthe ; † September 25, 1930 there ) was a German entrepreneur and politician of the DDP .

Life and work

After attending the community school , Bahr, who was an evangelical believer, switched to the grammar school in his hometown Landsberg, which he left again in 1864 at the age of 16 after completing secondary school . After a commercial apprenticeship and first job in Potsdam , he did his military service in the Dragoon Regiment No. 10 from 1869 to 1871 . He then went to London for half a year and after his return worked in Landsberg as a merchant for manufactured goods until 1884. In 1884 he founded a sack and tarpaulin factory with plants in Landsberg, Magdeburg and Hamburg . In 1903 he also founded a jute spinning mill. Since the end of the 19th century he made extensive study trips to the USA and the Indian suburbs .

Bahr got involved in the association for land reform and was a member of the settlement society “Eigen Scholle” . He also founded a savings bank for the employees of his companies and was involved in the founding of Volkswohl AG , a non-profit company in Landsberg. He donated a people's welfare center (1913) and a public swimming pool (1930) to his hometown. His hometown made him an honorary citizen for his services .

Bahr was a co-founder of the German Democratic Party and had been a member of the Weimar National Assembly since the Reichstag election in 1919 . He was then a member of the Reichstag until 1924 . He was also a city ​​councilor and member of the magistrate in Landsberg.
