Max Becker (animal physiologist)

Max Becker (born May 8, 1906 in Aschersleben ; † June 2, 2000 in Stanggaß , Upper Bavaria ) was a German animal physiologist and university professor .

Life

Max Becker, the son of the businessman Max Becker senior and his wife Anna, née Ebert, graduated from the Reformrealgymnasium in Aschersleben in 1924 . He then turned to studying chemistry , physics and mineralogy at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , in 1928 he passed his examination to become a graduate chemist, in 1930 he was awarded a Dr. phil. nat. PhD .

Max Becker subsequently received a position as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. In the same position, he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin in 1936 , and in the following year to the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , where he qualified as a lecturer in animal physiology and nutrition in 1940 .

Max Becker, who then as a soldier in the Air Force at the Second World War took part in 1950 to associate professor promoted. In the same year Becker was appointed department head of the Institute for Animal Nutrition at the Federal Research Center for Agriculture (FAL) in Braunschweig . In 1956 Max Becker accepted an offer for the full professorship for animal physiology and animal nutrition and head of the institute of the same name at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , a position he held until his retirement in 1972.

Max Becker, who also chaired the Animal Nutrition Section in the Association of German Agricultural Investigations and Research Institutes (VDLUFA) , was awarded Oskar, who was established in memory of the important animal nutritionist Prof. Oskar Kellner , in recognition of his services in his field Kellner Prize and in 1972 the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .

Becker married Magdalena, born in 1953, in his first marriage in 1937, and in his second marriage in 1954, Gisela, born in Ebert. He was the father of six children named Max, Konrad, Manfred, Karsten, Charlotte and Harald. Max Becker died in 2000 at the age of 94.
