criticism

Since 2008, Friedrich, who often works as a court expert, has been criticized for allegedly inadequate or false reports: On the basis of an expert report by Friedrich, a Carinthian father and step-grandfather were convicted of sexual abuse of his (grand) daughter and were imprisoned for 22 months and one year respectively, before they were acquitted in a retrial. The FPÖ's spokesman at the time , Peter Fichtenbauer , called for Friedrich to be removed from the list of experts at a press conference and accused him of having drawn up “masses of false reports”. Friedrich firmly denied these accusations.

In another case of sexual abuse of a minor, a court followed Friedrich's statement, “The expert opinion approach of the experts Dr. R. is therefore not in accordance with the Austrian forensic tradition [...] ”, rejected the credibility report of the experts and rejected the convicted person's request for retrial. The Linz Higher Regional Court overturned the decision: “Contrary to the 'Austrian forensic tradition' described by the first court, there cannot be the slightest doubt that the current state of scientific knowledge also applies in Austria. With regard to the methodology and the content of the credibility assessment, in particular the assessment of children after sexual abuse, the basic scientific principles developed in the Federal Republic of Germany on the occasion of the ' Worms Trials ' are therefore also valid for the Austrian criminal process. " Acquitted months later.
