Max Knapp
Max Knapp (born November 13, 1899 in Zurich , † December 16, 1979 in Basel ) was a Swiss actor and theater director as well as opera and operetta singer (tenor).
Life
Max Knapp was the son of the wood sculptor Max Knapp and Emilie Herchert. While training as a sculptor with his father, he trained in acting and singing. He played at the Stadttheater Zürich, the Stadttheater St. Gallen and in what is now Wuppertal in Germany. From 1928 until his death he performed in the Stadttheater Basel for more than half a century . He has been seen in more than 900 theater, opera and operetta roles. From 1947 he also directed.
He had his first screen appearance in 1924 in The Origin of the Confederation . The second film in which Knapp took part, The Woman and Death , is considered lost. From 1940 he played in Swiss dialect films. Franz Schnyder , Leopold Lindtberg and Kurt Früh cast him in their films. He was seen several times next to Fredy Scheim and Schaggi Streuli . In the film Machtrausch - But love wins , scenes from the performance The Great World Theater from 1937 in Einsiedeln were inserted into the film plot. The film De Wyberfind ultimately consisted of scenes from the film Der 8th Schwyzer , which was banned in 1940 and only shown in 1981. In the 1940 film Mier lönd nöd lugg he played alongside Lisa Della Casa , Paul Hubschmid and Max Werner Lenz .
In the film De Chegelkönig , Knapp played alongside Rudolf Bernhard , Fredy Scheim , Hermann Gallinger and Willy Ackermann .
In 1953 he played in the commercial family M Junior and in 1976 he had his last film appearance in the documentary Confrontation by director Rolf Lyssy . In addition to the stage and the film, he worked in radio play and television productions. Max Knapp was married to Alice Egender.
