Max Reinhard
Max Reinhard also Max Reinhard-Knoerr (* July 27, 1882 in Bern , † August 17, 1974 in Binningen ), entitled to reside in Röthenbach in the Emmental , was a Swiss mineralogist , petrograph and university professor .
Life
Berne-born Max Reinhardt, son of primary school teacher Philippe Reinhard and his spouse Marie-born Ammon, turned to the receipt of federal Matura studying Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva to 1906 he graduated from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich the academic degree of Dr. phil.
In 1904 Max Reinhard took over an assistant position to Ludovic Mrazek at the Mineralogical-Petrographic Institute of the University of Bucharest , where he completed his habilitation in 1910 as a private lecturer in the subjects of mineralogy and petrography. From 1911 he was employed as a petrolatum specialist in Sumatra , Java , Borneo , Colombia and Venezuela on behalf of an oil company . After his return to Switzerland in 1916, Reinhard received a position as a research assistant at the Laboratoire minéralogie at the University of Geneva, where he was promoted to associate professor in 1920 .
In 1923, Max Reinhard was appointed full professor of mineralogy and petrography at the University of Basel , succeeding the late Carl Schmidt . Reinhard, who held the dean's office twice and the rector's office in 1943 , retired in 1952 . In addition, he held a visiting professorship at Durham University in 1930 . Max Reinhard, on whose initiative the Swiss Mineralogical and Petrographic Society was founded in 1924, carried out fundamental investigations using optical methods to determine the chemistry of the feldspars . In 1934 Max Reinhard was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Geneva in recognition of his scientific merits .
Max Reinhard was married to Nora nee Knoerr. The son Toni came from this marriage . Max Reinhard died in Binningen in the summer of 1974 just after he had turned 92.
