Max Rieger (born July 10, 1946 in Mittenwald ) is a former German ski racer .
biography
Rieger was German slalom champion in 1969 and giant slalom and combination champion in 1971. At the Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble 1968 he was twentieth in slalom and sixth in giant slalom at the 1972 Winter Games in Sapporo.
Max Rieger achieved his greatest successes at the 1970 World Championships in Val Gardena (South Tyrol) when he finished fourth in the giant slalom and in the combined. In 1974 at the World Championships in St. Moritz, he finished eighth in the giant slalom.
In his special discipline, giant slalom, Max Rieger won on 2/3. March 1973 the two-day World Cup race in Mont Sainte-Anne (Canada). The next German to succeed in this was Felix Neureuther in 2014 . Max Rieger was also able to climb the other two steps of the winners' podium once (each in slalom and also in Berchtesgaden with rank 2 on January 9, 1972 and previously rank 3 on January 6, 1971). Rieger took third place on December 14, 1970 at the slalom in Sestriere ; this race was not part of the World Cup.
He later ran a ski school in Mittenwald and Ellmau .
