The Media Union GmbH , based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein is a media company with an approximate annual turnover of 1.5 billion euros .

Publishing holdings

The nucleus of Medien Union GmbH is the daily newspaper Die Rheinpfalz , based in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. This newspaper was founded in 1945 by the publisher Josef Schaub , the father of today's main shareholder of the Medien Union, Dieter Schaub , with the consent of the French occupying power at the time. Based on this newspaper, today's media union was gradually formed through acquisitions.

A managing director of the Rheinpfalz-Gruppe is the chairman of the management of the Süddeutscher Verlag .

Medien Union GmbH holds 44.36% of the shares in Südwestdeutsche Medien Holding GmbH (SWMH), which publishes, among other things, the Stuttgarter Nachrichten and the Stuttgarter Zeitung . The Süddeutsche Zeitung , the largest national subscription daily newspaper in Germany, has owned 18.75% of the SWMH since 2002, and 81.75% with effect from February 29, 2008.

Medien Union GmbH also includes Freie Presse based in Chemnitz and the Westermann printing and publishing group based in Braunschweig , as well as Jobware Online-Service GmbH based in Paderborn and Walhalla-Fachverlag in Regensburg.
