Meenakshi and the Scent of Men (Indian title: Aiyyaa ; an exclamation of shouting in the Marathi language) is a 2012 Bollywood film with Rani Mukerji in the lead role.
action
The middle-class Deshpande family from Pune live in Mumbai and are made up of bizarre family members. The mother, named Aai, is a lively, overly positive-thinking personality who can even interpret the mountain of trash on her doorstep to her advantage. Dadi, the blind grandmother, loves driving in her motorized wheelchair, the father is a passionate collector, even when smoking he needs at least four burning glow sticks between his fingers and the youngest son Nana prefers to take care of stray dogs rather than graduation. The eldest daughter Meenakshi is a daydreamer , in this dream world she shines as a Bollywood star, where she sings, dances and plays alongside her male idols.
Her recently completed business studies and obtaining a diploma means that she is looking for a job, but her mother thinks it is high time to get married. A large-scale search for candidates begins; almost every day a new family with a potential groom is invited to dinner. Meenakshi plays along for the sake of her parents, but at the same time can find a job as a secretary in the university library. She enjoys her temporary independence a lot and finds a new friend in her work colleague Mynah.
One day your fine nose smells an exceptionally pleasant, almost irresistible scent, which leads you to follow the cause of this smell. The Tamil art student Surya doesn't seem to notice that Meenakshi often goes after him. She may not be brave enough to speak to him, but she would like to know more about him. The kitchen boy, who is also of Tamil origin, proves to be the most suitable source and she takes language lessons from him. One day she is so infatuated by Surya's scent that she follows him on the way home to his house.
She puts an end to the daily bridal show when a nice and courteous bachelor expresses his interest and she agrees. On the same evening, she realizes that the engagement should take place in 2 weeks and that there are only 14 days left to be able to contact Surya. The next day she resolves to get to know his family. While pretending to sell saris , Surya's mother invites her in, and she takes the opportunity to ask about his preferences and habits. She even manages to secretly take one of his coats with her.
On the day of their engagement, she secretly sneaks away to take her last chance to speak to Surya. But standing in front of his house, she loses courage. It wasn't until much later, when she saw him leave, that she absorbed Surya's scent again so strongly that she followed him, this time to a somewhat dark part of town. In the end he arrived at a dye works , where she secretly observed him at work. When Meenakshi suddenly faints, Surya takes notice of her, takes care of her and finally brings her home.
There the engagement guests are already waiting longingly for the bride, now Meenakshi has to explain in front of the crowd that she does not want to marry Madhav as announced. Surya, who had already confessed to her on the way home that he had noticed her interest from the start and that he was very impressed by her frank manner, now takes the opportunity to ask for Meenakshi's hand. Her family, still a little confused by the sudden events, finally agrees and celebrates the already prepared engagement with the new future son-in-law.
synchronization
The German synchronization emerged in 2013 after a dialogue book of Dirk Bublies and the dialogue director of Marion Schoeneck by the synchronous company VSI Synchron GmbH in Berlin .
The Tamil dialogues were not translated, but subtitled and repeated by the voice actors in the original language in order to avoid a so-called “voice break”.

Reviews
“ Aiyyaa is certainly not a failed film, but if you don't have pronounced Rani affinities, you might get bored here. Or scratch your head. Because the mix of romance, 'Amélie' -like hyperglycaemia, shrill ideas and sprawling dance routines is not exactly the most accessible or sensible mix. But if you get involved and survive the initial mess, then the film still offers one or the other successful moment. "
