Megumi Izumi ( Japanese 泉 め ぐ み , Izumi Megumi ; born March 4, 1983 in Hinai (today: Ōdate ), Akita Prefecture ) is a Japanese biathlete .

Megumi Izumi is a sports soldier and lives in Sapporo . She starts for the "winter combat training unit" of the ground self-defense forces and is trained by Sakae Murota. In 2003 she competed in the Junior European Cup for the first time in Geilo and was tenth in the sprint and eleventh in the pursuit. A mixed season with sixth place in the pursuit of Brusson culminated in the 2004 Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne . A ninth place in the individual was the best result there. At the end of the season, she won her first sprint race in Gurnigel .

From the 2004/05 season Izumi competed in the senior biathlon European Cup . Her first race was an individual in Geilo, in which she came in 33rd place. Only a little later she made her debut in a relay race in Beitostølen in the Biathlon World Cup , in which she ran from now on, especially since 2006, with priority. She was nominated for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, but was not used. In her first season, she almost consistently placed around places 80 to 90. The highlight was the Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Antholz , where the Japanese achieved a good 58th place in the individual and thus her best result in the World Cup so far. At the Biathlon World Championships 2008 in Östersund , she competed in two races and was 80th in the individual and 83rd in the sprint competition.

In addition to biathlon races, Izumi also sporadically competes in cross-country skiing . So far, she has competed twice in the Continental Cup in Japan. The best result was a 16th place over 10 kilometers in Sapporo .
