Mehrdad Payandeh (legal scholar)

Mehrdad Payandeh (* 1978 in Tehran , Iran ) is a German legal scholar. His main areas of activity are international, European and constitutional law. Payandeh holds the chair “Public Law II - International Law, European Law and Public Law” at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg and is thus Doris König's successor .

biography

After studying law at the University of Düsseldorf , Payandeh became a research assistant to Alexander Lorz in 2004 . After his legal clerkship (2007–2009) he obtained a Master of Laws degree from Yale Law School from 2009–2010 . In 2008 he received his doctorate with a thesis on international law at the University of Düsseldorf. In May 2012 he received a junior professorship for public law and international law at the University of Düsseldorf. There he completed his habilitation in 2016 and received the venia legendi for the subjects of public law , international law , European law and legal theory . On September 23, 2016, he was appointed university professor at Bucerius Law School.

On June 21, 2019 Mehrdad Payandeh was nominated by the Federal Republic of Germany in the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of the United Nations elected (United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination [UNCERD]).

Research and Teaching

Mehrdad Payandeh's main research areas are international law , in particular human rights protection, peacekeeping law and United Nations law, European constitutional law and legal issues that deal with the third power , in particular constitutional and international jurisdiction.
