Milestone (nessa, half mile)

Prussian half-milestone near Nessa

The half mile stone near Nessa is a small monument in the town of Teuchern in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

In the 1820s, the Prussian quarter and half milestones differed mainly in terms of size - small bells and large bells . While only a quarter milestone of this type ( near Theißen ) between Weißenfels and Zeitz has survived , there are still two half milestones. This is special because quarter milestones were also at the three-quarter mile position, i.e. they were there twice as often. Due to their smaller size, however, they are often easier to overlook and were therefore more often destroyed or stolen. The half-milestone near Nessa is no longer in the best condition and shows signs of damage.

It is also unusual that there is a whole milestone just 100 meters away . The Prussian mile was 7.532 kilometers, so there should be more than 3.7 kilometers between the two stones. Since this obelisk was placed across the street, it is obvious that a change took place here. The Prussian Staatschaussee , today in this section the Bundesstraße 91 , was once built from Berlin , starting at Dönhoffplatz , via Halle (Saale) and Weißenfels to Giebelroth on the Thuringian border. While the full mile obelisks were moved, the quarter and half milestones remained in their previous positions. In 2010 the stone was not directly affected by the road expansion, but was cleaned and repositioned.

The 100 centimeter high distance stone with the inscription 1/2 mile is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with the number 094 66136 as a monument near Wernsdorf.
