Prussian half milestone in Blankenheim

The milestone in Blankenheim is a small monument in the community of Mansfelder Grund-Helbra in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

The Prussian Staatschaussee from Berlin via Halle (Saale) to Kassel was created in the section from Langenbogen to Nordhausen in the years 1824 to 1826. The milestones of the section date from 1826 and of these, the half milestone in Blankenheim is a typical representative. It bears the inscription 1/2 mile and as such stands halfway between the whole mile stones of Emseloh and Wimmelburg , but also between the quarter mile stones that frame Blankenheim towards Emseloh and Wimmelburg . Such a completely preserved milestone sequence is a rarity today, but it used to be normal. The zero point of the Chaussee was Dönhoffplatz in Berlin.

Like so many stones along the route - for example Lüttchendorf or Seeburg - this one was partly sunk and had to be lifted in 2002. To prevent this from happening again, he was placed on a pavement and provided with an explanatory board from the Milestones research group . The stone of the big bell type is on the south side of the main street near a bus stop at the Edelgarten. The writing was also peeled off. The Prussian half-mile stone is under monument protection and is still not to be found in the monument register . The bell, which is 120 centimeters high, is a monument to surveying and the history of transport in the 19th century, but it is also a legal monument.
