Anhalt milestone at Rehsen

The milestone near Rehsen is a small monument in the town of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the Wittenberg district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with registration number 094 40708 as a monument .

location

Between Rehsen and Seegrehna , the milestone is located on state road 131 opposite a field path junction about halfway between the town of Rehsen and the junction of state road 129 towards Selbitz . Historically, this route connected Dessau with the Anhalt border near Rehsen. The previous stone in the row ( II miles from Dessau ) has also been preserved.

Shape and inscriptions

It is a typical Anhalt round base stone that stands on the south side of the street and bears two inscriptions. The older inscription reads III miles from Dessau . The Anhalt milestones were set up shortly after 1850 along the most important roads, with no distinction being made between highways and fiscal roads , as in the course of Saxony . Nevertheless, the Anhalt based on the Prussian mile , so initially corresponded to 7.532 kilometers.

When the land was re-measured in 1871, the stones were re-set and spaced at a distance of one mile equivalent to 7,500 kilometers. This also explains the second inscription, which reads 22.5 KM . The milestone was therefore reused as a kilometer stone and left in its location. Presumably to avoid confusion, this inscription was put on the same side as the miles. The almost 90 centimeter high milestone - similar to the one at Porst or the one in Kleinpaschleben - is a relic of several systems of spacer stones .
