The milestone near Wörlitz is a small monument in the town of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt . It is under monument protection and is entered in the monument register with registration number 094 40440 as a monument .

location

The milestone is located east of Wörlitz on the district road 2101, part of the connection from Dessau via Wörlitz and Riesigk to the former border between Rehsen and Pratau. The last milestone in this series is also there.

Shape and inscriptions

As with all known Anhalt milestones , it is a round base stone. However, the cylinder made of gray sandstone now stands on a square base. These whole milestones were erected shortly after 1850 along the most important roads in Anhalt , although, in contrast to Prussia, no distinction was made between highways and fiscal roads. Its inscription reads II miles from Dessau . The Anhalt mile was based on the Prussian mile , so it initially corresponded to 7.532 kilometers. Later it was adjusted minimally and was then as long as 7500 meters. The zero point of all milestones was initially Dessau's market square and the castle there . This is why there is a milestone north of Wörlitz with the same inscription, because a road to Coswig (Anhalt) branched off there near Wörlitz .
