General

Was produced My life & I by the production company Sony Pictures film and television production GmbH . Stylistically and thematically, the series is similar to the US production Willkommen im Leben (original My So-Called Life ), even if it was designed as a drama . In contrast to this, however, Mein Leben & Ich shows strong similarities to the US cartoon series Daria . In both series, the main character is a pretty cynical girl - in contrast to Welcome to Life , where this is more dreamy.

By 2009, Mein Leben & Ich had broadcast six seasons with a total of 74 episodes. The series is also broadcast in other European countries. In Austria it runs z. B. in the ORF lunchtime program , in France it is broadcast under the title Ma vie à moi by France 2 , in Finland it is called Elämä on Laiffii , in Spain Mi Vida y Yo and in Russia Моя жизнь и я .

The series was nominated for several television awards and won several awards. In 2004, Wolke Hegenbarth won the German Comedy Prize for her portrayal of Alex ; the series itself was nominated for this award in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006, respectively. The series was nominated for the German Television Prize in 2002 and 2004, and there were also three nominations for the Grimme Prize in 2002 and 2003 .

On October 19, 2007, the production company announced the end of the series after 74 episodes, as the TV station RTL had not commissioned a seventh season.

On November 3, 2008, the first two seasons appeared on DVD. The bonus material of the first season contains a complete episode of the following season as a preview , including an episode from season 6, which was not broadcast on television until 2009. On April 6, 2009, seasons three and four were released on DVD and finally seasons five and six on July 24, 2009. The release was implemented by Turbine Medien . Instead of the soundtrack used in the German broadcast, the DVD contains the alternative of the international broadcast, since according to Turbine , licensing was not possible for the RTL soundtrack .

main characters

Wolke Hegenbarth played Alex Degenhardt
Alexandra "Alex" Degenhardt
Alex ( Wolke Hegenbarth ) is the protagonist of the series. She is hardly interested in her fellow human beings and tries again and again to get rid of Claudia. And when she deals with the people around her, it is often only by insulting them in a sarcastic way. Occasionally, Alex also shows nice sides, e. B. she comforts Claudia once because she is lovesick or talks to her mother, who is suffering from menopause. Alex's hobbies are reading and journaling. The latter also provides the framework for the series. Photography is also one of her great passions. She prefers to photograph trash cans, dead birds and the like. Afterwards she develops her photos in the bathroom herself. Because of her aversion to other people, she tries to avoid them, but she is often - mostly triggered by Claudia - forced to deal with their problems.

family

Gottfried Vollmer played Hendrik Degenhardt
Hendrik Degenhardt
Hendrik ( Gottfried Vollmer ) is Anke's husband and the father of Alex and Basti. He is a car designer by profession, but he used to want to be an artist. Designing is also his great hobby: Hendrik often locks himself in the garage to design something important to himself. When it comes to manual work, however, he usually behaves clumsily. Hendrik prefers to avoid conflicts and hide in his garage, which repeatedly leads to minor marital crises between him and his wife Anke.
Maren Kroymann played Anke Degenhardt
Anke Degenhardt
Anke ( Maren Kroymann ) is Hendrik's wife and mother of Alex and Basti. At the beginning of the series, she is a music therapist in the city hospital and often annoys her family with her bells and rattles. At home, she often deals with the problems in her family, especially those of Alex and Basti, who do not see them as problems. In addition, Anke is the one in the family who gets along best with Claudia. When Anke went through the menopause, it burdens the whole family and Anke annoys everyone with exercises from books such as “10 steps to happiness”.
Frederik Hunschede played Sebastian Degenhardt
Sebastian "Basti" Degenhardt
Basti ( Frederik Hunschede ) is Alex's little brother. Even at the beginning of the series, he and Alex hate each other. Most of the time they avoid each other and rarely talk to each other. Basti is popular with girls, which is why he often behaves arrogantly. But he too can get very insecure, especially when he notices that he has fallen in love with Claudia.

Friends

Nora Binder played Claudia Fischer
Claudia Fischer
Claudia ( Nora Binder ) sees herself as Alex's best friend, even if she sees it very differently. Her favorite pastime is meddling in the lives of her classmates. She talks quickly and a lot, which annoys Alex. Plus, she never notices when she's screwed up and ignores any negative undertones. Claudia's parents have been divorced for several years, which is still very stressful for them at times. She lives with her mother in Cologne. But even if it is often about her, the mother is never in the series. In season 5, Claudia falls in love with Alex's brother Basti. In the last episode of season 6, the two are together.
Nikolaus "Niko" Pütz
Niko ( Sebastian Kroehnert ) is a friend of Claudia's and sees himself as a friend of Alex, which also annoys Alex. Niko's parents can't stand him, just like his classmates. His biggest dream is to become a successful DJ.
In the last episode of the fourth season, Niko drops out of school and explains to his friends and family that he will move to Berlin. However, at the beginning of the fifth season he reappears in a video store where he has to work off debts as managing director. When Alex discovers him, he hires her as a saleswoman.

Minor characters

Daniel Kaminski
Daniel ( Toni Snétberger ) is in the same class as Alex and Claudia. It often appears that Alex is in love with him, but she doesn't admit it to herself. Alex is the only one in class who knows that his mother has a drinking problem and that Daniel has to look after his brother because of it. When the problem with his mother can no longer be tamed, he moves to Dortmund with his brother. Shortly before it comes to that, he and Alex kiss, whereupon Alex waits longingly but in vain for his call when he is in Dortmund.
Quay
Kai ( Ole Tillmann ) is employed in the fifth season in Nikos video store, in which Alex also works. Kai is arrogant and in love with himself. He spends most of his time in the video store insulting customers or lounging with Niko in the office. He and Alex hate each other, but Niko and Basti get on well with Kai. Because of this, Alex and Kai keep bumping into each other.

Locations

Mein Leben & Ich was shot from 1999 to 2007 by the production company Sony Pictures Film und Fernseh Produktions GmbH on behalf of RTL . The series takes place in Cologne . Many scenes take place in a family house. In fact, only the pilot episode (1999) was shot in a real family house in Cologne. In the former MMC Studios 14 and 15 Hürth, the inside and outside of the house was recreated as true to the original as possible. The rest of the episodes were filmed there. The roof scenes to be seen in the series were filmed in a specially erected, converted container on the premises of MMC Hürth in the open air and in the studios. Fifty percent of the series was external. Some local shops that really exist in Cologne and the school can be seen in the series. The best known are the Hansagymnasium Köln (which is also called that in the series ), the anyway and the limit (which are simply called "Café" in the series) and the Traumathek (which was called the same in the 5th season, but then in the 6th season was renamed Nikothek).

Others

  • The series was nominated four times for the German Comedy Award, but was not awarded a single time. With three nominations in 2004 , Wolke Hegenbarth won a prize. Mein Leben & Ich was for a very long time, with seven nominations, the most frequently nominated show of all categories.
  • The same applies to the German Television Award: With a total of four nominations, including best sitcom, best comedy series, best actor, the series did not win a single award in any category.
  • The underlying scripts were partly written in the USA and were then adapted to the German market.
  • The sixth and final season was broadcast by RTL, although it was shot in 2007, only from November 2009 and on not very attractive slots - on Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
  • Several fan articles were released for the series, including all six seasons on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, a CD with the soundtrack for the series and some books.
