Meinrad Lorenz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Meinrad Lorenz (born August 12, 1880 in Praden ; † November 2, 1968 in Chur ) was a Swiss architect who designed the Rhaetian Railway station buildings at the beginning of his career before the start of the First World War . After the end of the war, he continued his official career at SBB, which resulted in no more buildings being built by him.

Education and employment

Lorenz, who worked for Emanuel von Tscharner from 1900 to 1903, interrupted his architecture studies at the Technikum Winterthur from 1897 to 1899 . However, he did not resume studies in Winterthur, but went to Germany to the School for Architecture and Building Construction in Strelitz , where he graduated in 1904. Apparently Lorenz completed several work stays in Munich , Berlin , Dresden and Stuttgart in the following years , at least he worked again at von Tscharner from 1905 to 1906 before he joined the building construction office of the Rhaetian Railway in 1907 . There he was promoted to master builder for the new lines in 1910, a function in which he mainly designed standard structures for the Ilanz - Disentis and Bever - Scuol railway lines , the reception buildings and waiting rooms in Disentis, Trun , Scuol , Ardez , Zernez , Carolina , Cinuos-chel / Brail , Sumvitg-Cumpadials , all in Bündner Heimatstil.

In 1920 he moved to the SBB structural engineering office in Bern . From 1925 until his retirement in 1945 he took over the management of the building construction office District III of the railway company in Zurich .
