Melissa Jiménez (born April 14, 1984 in Queens , New York City ), stage name MJ , is an American singer and songwriter who grew up in Fort Lee , New Jersey .

Life

Melissa Jiménez is the daughter of a Greek mother (Maria Anagnostos) and a Mexican father (Horacio Jiménez). She was introduced to music at an early age through her musical parents. At the age of 14, she took her mother's place as the lead singer in her father's orchestra.

MJ took part in the sixth season of the US talent show " The Voice " and later on its Mexican equivalent "La Voz México". She also sang the American national anthem in New York's Madison Square Garden on the occasion of the boxing match between Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah and in memory of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the song Amazing Grace in St. Patrick's Cathedral .

Her best-known artistic recordings include the tribute song for Selena, recorded with Wyclef Jean , and the song Rica Y Apretadita, produced with Kumbia All Starz , founded by Selena's brother AB Quintanilla .
