history
The Sindelfingen plant was founded in 1915 by the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft . In the early days, mainly aircraft and aircraft engines, such as the Mercedes D III, were manufactured, which is why the plant had a runway at that time. In 1919 the first passenger car was finally manufactured. After the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with Benz & Cie., Which was co-founded by Carl Benz . in 1926 the entire body shop of the new Daimler-Benz group was relocated to the Sindelfingen plant. A year later, the vehicles were assembled for the first time using assembly line production , which was introduced by Wilhelm Friedle , the then operations director at the Sindelfingen plant. In 1929 the first press shop was installed in the plant . The term Sindelfingen bodywork became a quality term in the period that followed. Over time, as sales increased, more workers were required. In 1938 the plant employed around 6,500 people.
During the Second World War , Daimler-Benz became one of the largest producers of armaments . This was also ensured through the use of forced laborers who were deported to Germany, of which around 3,000 were women, children and men, mainly from the Soviet Union and Poland, in Daimler's own warehouse in Sindelfingen . Due to the industrial armament potential, the city of Sindelfingen was very badly damaged during the war, and the Sindelfingen plant also suffered great losses. Reconstruction began in 1945, and production of the 170 V was the only one to continue. In 1950, due to increasing production and the relocation of final assembly of cars from the Untertürkheim plant to Sindelfingen, two- shift operation was introduced in Sindelfingen. In 1955, 80,500 cars were manufactured. In 1972 the first S-Class appeared with the Mercedes-Benz W 116 . It was only manufactured in Sindelfingen, which has not changed to this day with the current model of the S-Class ( W 222 ).
From 2002 to 2012, luxury limousines were also produced at the Sindelfingen site by Maybach-Manufaktur , a former division of Daimler AG.
The Sindelfingen plant was Daimler AG's plant with the highest sales until 2015, when it was overtaken by the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. Approx. 319,000 vehicles were assembled in Sindelfingen in 2015, and approx. 324,000 in Bremen.

Around 165 GWh of electricity are generated there each year, of which around 65 GWh are sold to Stadtwerke Sindelfingen in the form of thermal energy .
