Meriç (until 1936 Kavaklı ) is a district town and a district in the west of the Turkish province of Edirne . Meriç is home to almost a quarter of the district's population (2018: 22.38%). The city is about 60 kilometers from Edirne in a south-south-west direction (SSW).

The district borders on Uzunköprü County to the east and İpsala County to the south . The remainder of the border (56 km) in the west and north is the Meriç river with Greece . Meriç is the Turkish form of the name of the Mariza river , which characterizes the entire area.

In addition to the district town, there are two other municipalities ( Belediye ): Küplü (2,497) and Subaşı (1,990 inhabitants). Furthermore, 21 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 311 inhabitants complete the district. Adasarhanlı is the largest village (900 inhabitants).
