Meta Omankowsky (born May 14, 1902 in Stolzenhagen near Stettin , † June 23, 1984 in Berlin ), née Schwarz, was a German SPD politician.

Life

Omankowsky attended a business school in Berlin with a commercial training. She then worked in publishing until she married Erwin Omankowsky in 1924 . She was able to continue her political education through educational institutions run by the trade unions and the adult education center. In 1928 she joined the SPD. From 1929 to 1933 she was the head of the women's working group.

Immediately after the end of the Second World War , Meta Omankowsky took part in the reconstruction of the SPD and the Workers' Welfare Organization (AWO). As a result, she was elected to the city ​​council of Greater Berlin in 1946, and she was also a member of the Berlin House of Representatives until 1967.

Through Omankowsky's parliamentary work for more than 20 years, she was awarded the House of Representatives Medal of Merit in 1966. On her 70th birthday in 1972 she was honored as the city ​​elder of Berlin .

Meta Omankowsky was buried in the II. Reinickendorf Municipal Cemetery , as an honorary grave for the State of Berlin .
