Methacrylic acid dodecyl ester is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters .

Extraction and presentation

Dodecyl methacrylate can be produced in 99% yield by the transesterification of methyl methacrylate with 1-dodecanol in the presence of phosphorous acid .

properties

Methacrylic acid dodecyl ester is a flammable, hardly inflammable, colorless to yellowish liquid with a slightly fruity odor, which is sparingly soluble in water. It is chemically unstable and can polymerize. It comes on the market with a small amount of hydroquinone monomethyl ether for stabilization .

use

Methacrylic acid dodecyl ester is used as a reactive diluent in radical radiation curing and as a comonomer for the production of acrylic resins .
