Methyltrimethoxysilane can be used as a silica source for the synthesis of polyethyleneimine -silica (PEI-silica) organic-inorganic hybrid particles, for converting hydrophilic ceramic surfaces into hydrophobic surfaces by modifying the -OH groups and for modifying silica aerogels by inducing hydrophobicity and improving mechanical properties can be used without compromising transparency. The compound is also used as an acid scavenger, e.g. B. in the formation of substituted azulenes from alleylsilanes and tropylium tetrafluoroborate.
