The Mettelhorn is 3406 m above sea level. M. high summit below the Zinalrothorn near Zermatt in the Valais Alps .
Due to its central location in the Mattertal , steeply above Zermatt (located in the southeast) and Täsch (in the northeast), the Mettelhorn is a popular panoramic mountain with a panorama of the mountains around the Zermatt basin: Matterhorn , Breithorn , Monte Rosa Group, Mischabel Group , Weisshorn , Zinalrothorn , Ober Gabelhorn etc.
The normal ascent (demanding mountain hike) leads from Zermatt ( 1608 m above sea level ), through the Trift valley over the Furggji pass ( 3166 m above sea level ) and an upper firn field of the Hohlicht glacier (crevasses) from the southwest to the summit.
