The Platthorn is 3345 m above sea level. M. high summit near the 61 meter higher Mettelhorn near Zermatt in the Valais Alps .
It is located high above the Mattertal northwest of Zermatt and southwest of Täsch and is connected to the Mettelhorn in the immediate vicinity via the Furggji Pass. Like this one, the Platthorn is a popular panoramic mountain with a panorama of the mountains around the Zermatt basin: Matterhorn , Breithorn , Monte-Rosa-Gruppe , Mischabelgruppe , Weisshorn , Zinalrothorn , Ober Gabelhorn etc.
The normal ascent (challenging mountain hike) leads from Zermatt ( 1608 m above sea level. M. ) on a mountain trail in two hours through the drift Valley initially for Berggasthof drift ( 2337 m above sea level. M. ), from there in three hours on a alpine trail continues through the Trift valley to the Furggji pass ( 3166 m above sea level ) and from there finally in 30 minutes over rocky terrain but without climbing to the summit. In contrast to the Mettelhorn, no glacier has to be traversed here.
There is also a Platthorn in Eisten ( 3246 m above sea level ).
