history

Meczelstorf was first mentioned in a document in 1378. The old German personal name Mazzo, Koseform Mazzilo, and later Middle High German Metzel was passed down as early as the 8th century . The name most likely comes from a name transfer by the settlers.

The Metzdorfer Flur spreads on a low-lying riedel between Flöha and Großer Lößnitz before their northern confluence. The original 6 hooves were drawn either along the slope to the Flöha valley or that of the Lößnitz valley. The place was for a long time the official village of the Office Augustusburg (formerly Schellenberg).

In 1602 the first wooden bridge was built over the Flöha , the ford through the Flöha that had been used until then was replaced. In 1662 and 1680 the bridge had to be rebuilt as the previous ones were destroyed by ice drift . When crossing the bridge, escort money had to be paid, for which a bridge toll house was built in 1786. The construction of today's covered wooden bridge, built in 1832, is similar to that in Hennersdorf over the Zschopau . It is 55 meters long and 4.6 meters wide.

With the construction of the cotton mill in neighboring Hohenfichte in 1833, several workers' houses were built in Metzdorf. In 1839 a mill ( Neumühle ) is mentioned in the Lößnitz valley. Also in the 19th century, a parquet factory was built near the confluence of the great Lößnitz in the Flöha - in GDR times the "VEB Parkett-Holzwaren". On February 1, 1922, Metzdorf was incorporated into Hohenfichte.

In 1893, Metzdorf received a railway connection to the narrow-gauge railway Hetzdorf – Eppendorf – Großwaltersdorf in the Lößnitz valley with the stop of the same name . On October 4, 1925, the station was renamed Hohenfichte Hp . Operations on the line ceased in 1967.
