Meyenfeld is a district of Garbsen in the Hanover region , Lower Saxony.

geography

Located north of the city center of Garbsen, Meyenfeld borders the Horst district to the west and Berenbostel extends to the east . As the only district in the city of Garbsen, Meyenfeld still shows clear characteristics of an anger village . Parts of the older trees in and around the place are part of an old tree line and hedge landscape.

history

The first mention of Meyenfeld is undated and is placed between 1207 and 1224. In 1258, the first dated documented mention of "Meyenfeld-Leistlingen" followed.

Until the 17th century, Meyenfeld consisted of the neighboring settlements Meyenfeld and Leistlingen (also Lesteslage or Lesteslaebe ), which merged into "Meyenfeld" at the end of the 17th century. Leistlinger Strasse is a remnant of the former district. Meyenfeld was originally called Magethevelde , which probably goes back to Magathaville and means something like "large field". Later the name gradually changed to Meingfelde , Meyenvelde and finally to today's Meyenfeld.

Agriculture has shaped the town over the centuries. The place received small businesses with a grocery store (1869), a tailor's shop, a shoemaker and the opening of an inn (around 1798). The Kruger (then the name for an innkeeper), Christian Göhns, asked for permission for a "dance event" to expand the range of his inn.

Since the children from Meyenfeld had to go to school in neighboring Horst, their own school was planned and built from 1820 to 1823. The school existed as a primary school until 2000, with some restructuring, when it was closed. Since then, as before, the primary school in Horst has been the point of contact for the students. The Protestant church of the parish Frielingen-Horst-Meyenfeld is also located in Horst.

On March 1, 1974, Meyenfeld was incorporated into the city of Garbsen and lost its independence.

Economy and Infrastructure

Meyenfeld is just outside the closed built-up urban area of Hanover and Garbsen and has a rural character. In the 20th century, the place was expanded to include extensive residential areas, which increased the population from 275 in 1895 to around 2060 in 2005.

There is a kindergarten in the village. The nursing home for the elderly with around 380 residents (as of 2009) is one of the larger employers; there are regularly publicly accessible cultural events. After a major fire in May 2003 that did not harm anyone, it was renovated and expanded.

Meyenfeld is connected to the public transport network via several bus lines.
