Garbsen-Mitte is a district of Garbsen in Lower Saxony and is located north of the A 2 motorway and south of the B 6 between the districts of Berenbostel and Auf der Horst .

history

In the first half of the 1980s , the new Garbsen-Mitte district (approx. 50 m above sea level ) emerged in the city of Garbsen  with the construction of the Eurobau housing estate (1981-85). The area of the Eurobau settlement unites many different types of single-family houses, which are stylistically based on different architectural models of residential buildings from different European countries. The houses built should be available as model houses for two years. As a result of rising lending rates in the first half of the 1980s, many developers in the estate ran into financial difficulties.

In 1984 the construction of a large shopping center ( Real and other retailers), the Northwest Center, began.

The Garbsen-Mitte district is still characterized by strong structural growth, including multi-family houses. In Garbsen-Mitte, in addition to the residential development with single and multi-family houses, there is the town hall (since 1997), two large shopping centers (Northwest Center and Shopping Plaza), a modern cinema center (1999), restaurants and cafes. In Garbsen-Mitte there is also a growing industrial area and institutes of the Leibniz University Hannover , which are spatially united in the Production Technology Center Hannover (PZH). Further institutes of the University of Hanover will settle in the next few years. Around 5600 people live in Garbsen-Mitte today.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Garbsen-Mitte
Blazon : " Edged eighteen times with red and gold , topped with a right- looking silver lion head ."
Reasons for the coat of arms: The (red: golden) status change is based on the coat of arms of the city of Garbsen, which was based on the tinging of the former royal Hanoverian office of Ricklingen . The lion's head, stylistically depicted in the middle, refers to the old official coat of arms of the city.
