Michael Baba (born in Potsdam ) is a German opera singer (tenor).

Life

Born in Potsdam, he studied singing at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin .

He received his first engagements at the opera studio of the Semperoper in Dresden , at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin and at the Mannheim National Theater . This was followed by permanent engagements at the Münster Theater , the Metropoltheater in Berlin and the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich . Here he sang various roles. In the role of Max im Freischütz he has made guest appearances at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau , the Koblenz Theater , the Vienna Volksoper , the Graz Opera House , the St. Gallen Theater and in the United States . As Erik in the Flying Dutchman he was again engaged in Dessau, on a Japan tour and in Chemnitz .

The Tyrolean Festival Erl he sang with Gustav Kuhn as a heroic tenor to Parsifal (2006), the Siegmund in Die Walküre , Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2009) and Tristan from Tristan and Isolde (2012). At the Vienna Volksoper he sang Matthias Freudhofer ( Der Evangelimann ) and Pedro in Tiefland . In 2008 Michael Baba made his debut in Guadalajara (Mexico) as Florestan in Fidelio ; then he sang this role at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . Again as Erik from the Flying Dutchman he made his debut at the Leipzig Opera House , where he also sang the prince in The Love of the Three Oranges . This was followed by engagements at the New National Theater in Tokyo as Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten and at the Frankfurt Opera as King Creon in Medea .

In 2011 and 2012 he performed as Tichon Katja Kabanowa in Maastricht , as Parsifal and Walther von Stolzing at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl and in the title role in The King of Kandaules at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo . In October 2012 he sang Tristan from the opera Tristan und Isolde , a production of the Salzburg State Theater, and then again Parsifal at the State Theater Detmold for the first time in the Haus für Mozart . He made his debut as Tristan in January 2013 at the Four Seasons Center in Toronto . In May 2013 he was engaged as Tristan at the New Opera in Moscow .

In the summer of 2014 he made his debut in the role of Siegfried in the opera of the same name at the Tyrolean Festival in Erl. In 2015 he sang Siegfried in Götterdämmerung at this location . From 2014 to 2016 he was part of the ensemble of the Mannheim State Theater and sang Max (Der Freischütz), Parsifal , Herodes ( Salome ) and Fritz ( Der ferne Klang ). In 2016 Michael Baba made his debut as Othello at the opera festival on the Gars-Thunau castle ruins in Gars am Kamp . In 2016 he made his debut at Theater Vorpommern as Tannhäuser ( Tannhäuser and the Singers' War on Wartburg ) .

In the concert sector he sang Beethoven's 9th Symphony and “Christ on the Mount of Olives”, The Seasons (Haydn) , Le Roi David , The Song of the Earth and the Requiem (Mozart) .
