Michael Becker (Lawyer)

Michael Becker (born September 9, 1953 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German lawyer and advisor to professional athletes such as Michael Ballack , Bernd Schneider , Miroslav Klose , Per Mertesacker , Christian Wörns and Oliver Neuville . Becker represents and / or represented over 120 soccer players, he also worked for the Harlem Globetrotters in Europe.

Life

After graduating from high school and completing basic military service, Michael Becker began studying law , political science and journalism at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , which he completed after eight semesters in the spring of 1978 with the first state examination in law. During his legal traineeship, he worked for the scientific service of the State Parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate in Mainz, at the Chambers of Commerce Abroad in New York and Los Angeles and at the University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer . He passed the second state examination in law in August 1980. This was followed by a doctorate in July 1982 as Dr. jur. with the subject of constitutional barriers for the regulation of licensed football in the Federal Republic of Germany .

From 1974 to 1981 Becker worked as a research assistant in the law and economics department at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. He then went to the USA at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University . Here he graduated with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and then took over teaching as a teaching fellow at Harvard College .

From September 1981 to December 1998 Becker took on various positions at the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg and the European Commission in Brussels. Here he was, among other things, head of cabinet of Albert Leicht , a member of the European Court of Auditors , and a member of Christiane Scrivener's cabinet . As head of the legal service of the European Court of Auditors, Michael Becker was lawyer before the European Court of Justice . This was followed by positions as head of a team of auditors with auditing tasks in Central and Eastern Europe as well as in the former Soviet republics and the assumption of a teaching position in the MBA program of the Sacred Heart University Luxembourg with a focus on European law .

At the beginning of 1999, Michael Becker became a lawyer in Luxembourg with a focus on advising athletes as well as clubs and associations in the field of professional football. He is considered one of the most famous German players' agents.

From September 2009 to August 2014, he was initially a lecturer and then professor for sports law and sports management at the private University of Applied Management in Erding . Since 2014 he has been a lecturer for sports law and sports management at the University of Kaiserslautern .
