Michael Endres (* 1961 in Sonthofen , Oberallgäu district ) is a German pianist and university professor .

Life

Michael Endres studied with Klaus Schilde and Karl-Hermann Mrongovius in Munich , with Peter Feuchtwanger in London and with Jacob Latiner at the Juilliard School , New York , where he received a master's degree.

His particular focus is on the compositions of Mozart , Schubert , Schumann and Ravel . He also devotes himself intensively to works by lesser-known and rarely played composers such as Leopold Godowsky , Gabriel Fauré , Sir Arnold Bax and Eduard Tubin .

Numerous CD recordings are available from him. a. have been awarded major prizes such as the “Choc du musique” or the “Diapason d'Or”. These include complete recordings of the piano sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Franz Schubert , Carl Maria von Weber , Arnold Bax as well as the entire piano works by Maurice Ravel and George Gershwin . He has performed at many major festivals and concerts around the world, such as B. at the Salzburg Festival , Wigmore Hall London, Newport Festival , Wiener Musikverein and Suntory Hall , Tokyo .

Endres was a professor at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (1993–2004), the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music in Berlin (2004–2009) and the University of Canterbury in Christchurch , New Zealand (2009–2014). Since March 2014 he has been Professor and Head of the Piano Department at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo , Norway.

Michael Endres was the accompanist of the baritone Hermann Prey for many years .
