Michael Fuchs (born June 6, 1972 - March 15, 2011 ) was an Austrian football player and coach .

Career as a football player

During his active time as a football player, Fuchs was a defensive midfielder and libero for SK Seiersberg, SV Thal and TUS Kirchbach and thus did not get beyond the amateur field. This is also because he invested his time in his professional training.

Career as a football coach

Fuchs acquired the football coach license back in 1997. In 1998 he successfully completed his studies in sports science in Graz with the academic degree Magister .

After Fuchs already looked after the offspring of the TUS Kirchbach during his active time, he was hired as a coach in the football school in the federal sports center Schielleiten after his studies . He held this position from 1998 to 2002. In addition, he was hired by FC Gratkorn in 2000 as a youth coordinator and division trainer and also worked at the St. Stefan / Rosental performance center (2001) and the Gnas regional training center (2002).

On December 18, 2002, Fuchs was entrusted with the post of head coach at the then regional league club FC Gratkorn. After he finished the championship of the Regionalliga Mitte in the 2002/03 season with fifth place, he ensured the greatest success in the club history of FC Gratkorn in the following 2003/04 season . By winning the championship title, FC Gratkorn rose to the first division. After the Gratkorn escaped relegation in the first 2004/05 season only thanks to the better goal difference, Fuchs succeeded in establishing the club in the second-highest level despite budget savings. After two fifth places in 2005/06 and 2006/07 , Fuchs was able to lead the Gratkorner to the runner-up title in the 2007/08 season behind their Styrian local rivals Kapfenberger SV . Things went less well in the following 2008/09 season with eighth place. The 2009/10 season ended in sixth place despite the team's reorganization.

Before the start of the 2010/11 season , the team was further rejuvenated, which meant that the championship start failed and FC Gratkorn only ranked in the lower third of the table. After the home game against SKN St. Pölten was lost 5-1 in the 13th round , Michael Fuchs resigned as coach of FC Gratkorn on October 4th, 2010. "For the club, for me - it's simply better for everyone to make a cut," said Fuchs, justifying his resignation. Fuchs did not want to comment on the fact that a one-time action in professional football, in which club president Josef Schenkirsch ordered the players to practice penalty immediately after the 1: 5 defeat, was decisive for his resignation. In 226 games for FC Gratkorn, Fuchs achieved an average of 1.31 points per game.

Private

Michael Fuchs was married and the father of triplets . On March 15, 2011, the former Gratkorn trainer died unexpectedly after a cardiac arrhythmia.
