Michael Gniffke

Michael Gniffke (born May 24, 1967 in Nuremberg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ).

Michael Gniffke was born in Nuremberg as the child of opera singer Rudolf A. Hartmann ( bass / baritone ). He trained as a classical singer with his father at the Conservatory in Zurich , after first completing a business degree. He then studied with Robert Schunk and Alfred Muff, among others .

He made his debut in Arth in 2006 as Graf Zedlau in Wiener Blut . He sang u. a. Alfredo ( La traviata ), Tamino ( Die Zauberflöte ), Hoffman ( Hoffmann's stories ), Max ( Der Freischütz ), Faust and Don José ( Carmen ). Among other things, he has performed in Magdeburg and at the State Theater in Kassel ( Aegisth in Elektra ) and ( Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte ), in Lübeck and at the State Theater in Kassel (Knusperhexe in Hansel and Gretel ), in Dijon (Captain in Wozzeck ) and Ulm (Alwa in Lulu ). He made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 2018 as 1st Edler in the new production of Lohengrin , directed by Yuval Sharon and under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann .

One focus of his work is contemporary opera. Among other things, he sang the Swiss premiere of Detlev Glanert's Three Fountains . In 2018 he took part in the world premiere of Alexander Raskatow's opera GerMANIA at the National Opera in Lyon . In 2020 he sang in Dijon in the world premiere of the opera Les Châtiments by Brice Pauset based on a material by Franz Kafka, the role of the father, Mr.Samsa and the traveler.

The high points of his concert activities were the Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber , the Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi and Le Laudi by Hermann Suter .
