Robert Schunk
Robert Schunk (born January 5, 1948 in Neu-Isenburg ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .
Life
Schunk studied from 1966 to 1973 at the Frankfurt University of Music with Professor Martin Gründler . From 1973 to 1975 he was a member of the ensemble of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe . He worked here u. a. in the German premiere of Michael Tippett's Midsummer Night's Dream .
From 1975 to 1977 he was engaged at the Bonn Opera House . Here he developed a broad repertoire (including Hoffmann, Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten , Florestan in Fidelio , Sadko, Don Carlos (Verdi) , Barinkay in the Gypsy Baron ).
From 1977 to 1979 he was a member of the Dortmund Opera House ensemble . Here he sang Siegmund and Parsifal for the first time, and Siegfried in Act 3 during a guest performance in Bochum .
In 1977 Robert Schunk made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival . From 1977 to 1987 he sang Siegmund in “ Die Walküre ”, Erik in “ Der Fliegende Holländer ”, Walther von der Vogelweide in “ Tannhäuser ”, Melot and Junge Seemann in “ Tristan und Isolde ”, Knights of the Grail in “Parsifal”.
From 1979 onwards he no longer took on a permanent engagement, but made guest appearances on the world's major opera stages and became one of the most important interpreters of the roles of the youthful-dramatic tenor in German.
Important stations were the debuts at the Hamburg and Vienna State Operas (both as Kaiser in “Die Frau ohne Schatten” in 1981 and “ Das Liebesverbot ” in Munich ).
In 1983 he worked as Max in " Freischütz " at the Bregenz Festival . In 1983 he made his US debut as Erik at the Lyric Opera of Chicago . In 1984 he took part in the Japan tour of the Hamburg State Opera. In 1986 he sang Florestan in “ Fidelio ” at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City , in 1989 Siegmund, and in 1990 Kaiser in the opera “Die Frau ohne Schatten”. 1987 Debut at the London Royal Opera House with Kaiser in "The Woman Without a Shadow". 1996 with Loge in the “ Rheingold ” role debut at the Opera House in Marseille .
Other stations of the singer were u. a. the opera houses in Milan , Paris , Catania , Frankfurt , Cologne , Düsseldorf , Rome , Barcelona , Naples , Palermo , Zurich .
In addition to his operatic activities, the singer has also performed successfully in concerts. His worldwide engagements as solo tenor in Beethoven's 9th Symphony should be emphasized here .
From 2001 until his retirement in 2013 Robert Schunk taught singing at the University of Music Cologne, Aachen location .
