Michael "Mike" Hartman (born February 7, 1967 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey player who worked for the Buffalo Sabers , Winnipeg Jets , Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers from 1984 to 2004 in the National Hockey League , and the Kölner Haie in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Mike Hartman began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1984 to 1987 for the Belleville Bulls and North Bay Centennials . During this period he was selected in the seventh round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 131 players by the Buffalo Sabers , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1986/87 season . In 17 games he scored three goals and gave as many templates. In the following four years, the winger had a regular place in the NHL squad of the Buffalo Sabers, where he spent much of the season in the 1987/88 season with Buffalo's farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League .

On October 11, 1991 Hartman was given together with Darrin Shannon and Dean Kennedy in exchange for Dave McLlwain , Gord Donnelly , and a five-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1992 to the Winnipeg Jets . The American was also able to convince immediately in Winnipeg, so that he was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft . In the Florida team, however, he did not even stay a full season before he was transferred to the New York Rangers on March 22, 1993 just before the end of the trade deadline for Randy Gilhen . With the Rangers he could not prevail in the following years and came, among other things, in the 1994/95 season shortened by a lockout only to an NHL assignment for the Rangers. He was also on the ice seven times this season for the Detroit Vipers in the International Hockey League . Also in the 1995/96 season he stayed in the IHL and spent the entire season with the Orlando Solar Bears .

On September 26, 1996 Hartman signed a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche , but he could not recommend himself for their NHL team and spent the 1996/97 season with Colorado's AHL farm team Hershey Bears . In the following season, the former junior international was on the ice for the Charlotte Checkers in the East Coast Hockey League . There he was able to recommend himself with 52 scorer points in 60 games for a commitment with the Kölner Haien , for which he scored six goals in 43 games in the German ice hockey league in the 1998/99 season and gave three assists. He then returned to Charlotte and played sporadically for the Checkers in the ECHL from 2000 to 2004 before ending his career at the age of 37. In the 2007/08 season, the former NHL player laced up his skates for Charlotte in the ECHL once more. Hartman was known as a player with a very physical game and regularly received an above-average number of penalty minutes.

International

For the USA Hartman took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 1987 , as well as the qualification for the 1999 World Championship .
