Michael Jelden
Michael Jelden (born July 16, 1971 in Stuttgart ) is a German violinist , linguist and doctor .
Life
Born into a musical family (his father Georg Jelden was a concert singer, his mother's family had been an orchestral musician for several generations), he received his first violin lessons in 1976 from Marianne Stitz in Stuttgart. In 1986 he was accepted into the class of violinist Ricardo Odnoposoff at the Stuttgart Music Academy . From 1990 to 1992 Jelden studied with Valerij Klimov at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory . Parallel to his studies, Jelden played for two years as Prímás in a Hungarian gypsy band .
As a successor to his teachers, Michael Jelden developed into a violinist in the tradition of the romantic virtuoso with a tendency towards the so-called "Gypsy" style. In the press he was described as a "born virtuoso" ( Der Spiegel ) or as a "Paganini with gypsy blood " ( FonoForum ). He is one of the few violinists who dedicate himself to the “small” repertoire - musical miniatures, virtuoso petitessen and genre pieces - and who take this musical “ boulevard ” seriously.
In 1996 he founded the largest music festival in Latin America, the “Festival de Manaus ” at the Teatro Amazonas in the Brazilian rainforest, which he also served as artistic director and manager for two years before handing it over to the Brazilian state. The associations with " Fitzcarraldo " from Werner Herzog 's film of the same name also come from this period .
Jelden compiled his 1996 debut CD from previously lost works by the Hungarian composer Jenő Hubay . Almost 100 arrangements of a wide variety of works for violin and orchestra, violin and piano and solo violin are by him, many of which have appeared in print.
In 2004 Jelden discovered a sonata for solo violin and another previously unknown manuscript by Niccolò Paganini , an Adagio , which belongs to his 2nd violin concerto "La Campanella". Jelden's Adagio is now available on CD, the solo sonata is being printed by Edition Peters.
In 2008 Jelden founded the Django Davis Mozart Band, a crossover project that translated elements of gypsy jazz (jazz manouche), classical and jazz into a new, independent music.
Michael Jelden plays a violin made by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume in 1827.
In addition to studying music, Jelden also studied medicine at the Saarland University and linguistics in Tübingen and Munich. He has published books on languages such as Georgian , English , German and Hungarian . Language acquisition is easy for him, meanwhile (2006) the polyglot speaks eight languages fluently, including an Iroquois language .
Today he works as a doctor in Homburg at the Saarland University Hospital .
