Michael Joseph Dooley (born December 13, 1961 in Invercargill , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Dunedin .

Life

Michael Joseph Dooley studied at Holy Cross College in Mosgiel and at the University of Otago . He received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Dunedin on December 13, 1989 .

In addition to duties in pastoral care, he was active in university pastoral care and training for priests. In 1998 he received his Masters degree in Theology from Melbourne College of Divinity . Since 2016 he has been Vicar General of the Diocese of Dunedin.

On February 22, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Dunedin . He received his episcopal ordination from his predecessor Colin David Campbell on April 26 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Wellington , Cardinal John Atcherley Dew , and the Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand, Archbishop Martin Krebs . The inauguration in the Diocese of Dunedin took place a day later.
