Michael Kalmbach

Michael Kalmbach (born May 7, 1962 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a German painter and sculptor. He created numerous drawings , watercolors , sculptures and installations .

Career

Michael Kalmbach studied from 1983 to 1989 at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste - Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main with Professor Michael Croissant . In his watercolors, sculptures and picture book illustrations, he deals with the themes of family, childhood and adulthood in a partly satirical-grotesque, partly melancholy color. Interpersonal relationships play a formative role in his works. His sculptural works consist of plaster of paris , clay and paper mache .

In 1987 he received a scholarship from the State of Rhineland-Palatinate at the Künstlerhaus Edenkoben . From 1989 to 1990 he completed a foreign scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation in New York / USA. In 1996 he received the Frankfurter Künstlerhilfe e. V. and in the same year the "Young Art Special Prize". In 1997 a working grant from the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art followed. In 1999 Kalmbach received a travel grant from the Hessian Cultural Foundation in Wiesbaden. In 2000 he received the Karl Ströher Prize 1999 at the Museum of Modern Art (MMK) in Frankfurt am Main . In the same year Kalmbach received a work grant from the Kunstfonds Foundation , Bonn.

Kalmbach lives and works in Berlin .
