Michael Kellner (born September 28, 1942 ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Michael Kellner played in Hertha 03 Zehlendorf's youth team . At Hertha 03, when he was 18, he played his first men's games from 1961. In the seasons 1961/62 (7th place) and 1962/63 (5th place) in the contract league Berlin , the goalkeeper was able to prevail and played 52 of 54 games. Even when the Regionalliga was introduced as the second highest German division, Kellner kept his regular place. After finishing sixth ( 1963/64 ), eight ( 1964/65 ) and five ( 1965/66 ), Michael Kellner signed a contract with league rivals Tennis Borussia .

Kellner also became a regular goalkeeper at Tebe and was able to qualify for the promotion round to the Bundesliga with his new club by finishing second in the 1966/67 season. However, the group ended in last place. In 1967/68 Tennis Borussia was also runner-up behind Hertha BSC , but failed again in the promotion round. After finishing third in the 1968/69 season , Kellner returned to Hertha 03 for one season.

Kellner was able to celebrate the Berlin championship with the Zehlendorfer in 1969/70 , but failed in the promotion round, among other things, to Kickers Offenbach . After a total of 151 league games for Hertha 03 Zehlendorf, Michael Kellner left his home club for good and went to Bundesliga club Hertha BSC.

With Hertha he was third in the 1970/71 season behind Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich . However, Kellner couldn't get past regular goalkeeper Volkmar Groß and only played 19 minutes against Borussia Dortmund. For this, Kellner completed two games in the Messestädte Cup against Nykøbing . In 1971/72 Kellner played five Bundesliga games as a replacement for the injured Groß. After the season, however, Michael Kellner was suspended in the wake of the Bundesliga scandal , although he had not been on the field in the game against Arminia Bielefeld . Since Kellner paid neither procedural costs nor a fine, he was banned until October 12, 1981. Instead, he blamed Jürgen Rumor for having destroyed his career by accepting money.
